I will cut the egg cartons and have the hat, pumpkin or ghost shapes.
Then they can cut out their own other shapes like
the broom, wizard hat, beard or wand etc.. out of the lid and leftover egg carton.
I also cut the oval and rectangle shapes on my cricut, but they could trace and cut their own.
First we will discuss which subject they would like to do. You can limit their choices to Witches and Wizards. Or just Ghosts or just Pumpkins...
On a practice paper we will draw the backgrounds with pencil.
They can trace the rectangle or the oval onto the practice paper a few times.
Begin with the outside border. Brainstorm different kinds of borders they can do and then have them create theirs.
Discuss the details on the different subjects.
The witches mostly have the details below the face, but the Wizard, pumpkins and ghosts have them above.
Have them practice drawing the castle, bat, spooky house, tree, cat, owl, pumpkin etc...
Practice drawing the witch's face, wizard face etc...
Show them how to punch out the face and witch hat brim with the paper punch.
These are pretty complicated, but if you give them all the information and then just help them work through all the steps they do just fine.
They will choose their subject and paint the shapes first so they can dry while they work on the other details.
I keep my examples out and they can refer to them also.
Talk about not glueing the 3D shapes on until the end because they get in the way while drawing on the background.
The hat brim needs to be trimmed flat.
Glue the 3D shapes with hot glue.
They can add some metallic gold accents with gold sharpies.
Black Sharpies make the faces on these ghosts.
Black Sharpies make the faces on these ghosts.
Could add a face to the pumpkin and make it more like Halloween.
I'm going to limit my choices for the students to create due to time constraints, but once I got started I just wanted to keep making them : )
